About Teacher Shea

Teacher Shea is currently pursuing their Bachelor's Degree in Music Education & Classical Guitar Performance at Oakland University, having studied under Professor Bret Hoag since 2016. Previously, they received an Associate’s Degree in Music Technology from Mott Community College. Shea teaches guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele.

 

Recently, Shea was a recipient of Oakland University’s 2019 Provost Undergraduate Student Research Award, which awarded funds to commission the composition “Thoughts & Prayers” for voice and guitar from composer Dr. Bill Withem and poet Alissa Quart. Shea is also a founder of Bridging the Gaps, in conjunction with Oakland University’s Research Department: a project of commissioned pieces for spoken word and guitar to be used in fundraising for various Michigan nonprofit organizations.

 

After graduation, Shea plans to pursue education research, music composition, and political activities that will improve local Michigan communities.
